I am receiving the below error when activating NVivo what should I do?
Your myNVivo account does not have a valid NVivo license. Check your login and account details and try again. If the problem persists, contact NVivo Support

Note: The latest version of NVivo was released in March 2020, it supersedes NVivo 12 and does not require a license key for activation. If you have a NVivo 12 or an older version license key, you will need to download and install the corresponding version of NVivo and enter your license key to activate NVivo. The below information only applies to you if you have purchased or trialled the latest version of NVivo released in March 2020.
Follow the instructions below depending on your situation:
- Receiving an error when activating a purchased NVivo license
- Receiving an error when activating NVivo trial
- Receiving an error when activating NVivo enterprise license
Receiving an error when activating a purchased NVivo license
If you purchased a single license for yourself using your email address, please ensure you are using the exact same email to activate that was used at the time of purchase. You can log into myNVivo portal using your email and click on the ‘My Purchases’ section to check the subscriptions under your account.
If the license was purchased by someone else for you, the purchaser will need to log into myNVivo and assign a license to you. For instructions on assigning licenses, refer to Manage multi-user licenses. Once the license has been assigned to you, you will receive an email – usually within the next 10 to 15 minutes – to confirm that NVivo access has been successfully provisioned. Follow the instructions in the email to download and activate NVivo.
Receiving an error when activating NVivo trial
Please note, if you have purchased or trialled NVivo Collaboration Cloud or NVivo Transcription, you will need to separately trial/purchase NVivo as well. NVivo Transcription and NVivo Collaboration Cloud products are separate products, and each will require its own trial or subscription.
Please follow the process below to trial NVivo. Note, each of below steps needs to be completed prior to activating NVivo trial.
- Create a myNVivo profile - Create a new myNVivo profile. If you have already done this step, proceed to Step 2 below.
- Subscribe to NVivo trial after creating a myNVivo profile - Sign into Customer Portal, using your myNVivo profile created in Step 1 and subscribe to the NVivo Trial by adding it to shopping cart and completing the checkout process.
- Wait for confirmation email – usually within the next 10-15 minutes – to confirm that the trial account has been provisioned successfully.
Once the above steps have been completed, follow the instructions in the email to install and activate trial.
Receiving an error when activating NVivo enterprise license
If you have already been provided an enterprise key for the latest version of NVivo, you can open NVivo and manually enter the Enterprise license key and follow the prompts to activate NVivo. Once NVivo has been activated, there is no need to sign into myNVivo account. You can start using NVivo.
If NVivo installation and activation is managed by your organization’s IT team and NVivo has already been activated, you will not be prompted to activate. In this situation, you don’t need to create a myNVivo account or login to myNVivo to activate.
