When searching online databases, syncing your EndNote library or updating EndNote, EndNote needs to connect to external sources. Below are the parameters that need to be accessible for connecting.
For syncing
- Port 80 and 443 (Authentication).
- *.myendnoteweb.com should be the only necessary servers.
- If TLS 1.0 isn’t enabled on a Windows machine, this will prevent many synchronization services from communicating with their online counterparts.
XRPC is used in place of SOAP. As the software is developed for Mac and PC, XRPC is generally simpler for this and there are other advantages as well.
XRPC is similar to XML-RPC but is the standard created for Clarivate Analytics products. Some Proxy servers and firewalls may not support XML-RPC or XRPC by default. Please check with your vendor for more information.
For updating
- Port 80. Everything should be using port 80.
- *endnote.com
For searching online databases
To connect to a remote database from behind a firewall, you (or your network administrator) must open ports to allow communication through the firewall. Most, but not all, z39.50 connections use port 210. Check the connection file to identify the port used for that connection. Open this port on the firewall and you should be able to connect to and search the remote database.
Note:
If the connection requires a subscription, you would need to verify you can access the z39.50 server from this computer, as the authentication requirements of the database to which you are connecting can vary. For example, if you have an Ovid subscription, Ovid may require an authenticated IP and/or a username and password, depending on what your institution has purchased.
Examples:
210 is the base port used for most sites and thereby the most commonly used by Horizon and Innopac servers. 2100 is also commonly used by Innopac systems, 2200 is the default for Unicorn systems, and 7090 is common to the Voyager system, including the Library of Congress.
Here are some additional common ports for Online Search:
