Summary
A sync conflict occurs when the same reference is changed in both your EndNote desktop library and your EndNote Web/online library between syncs.
EndNote cannot automatically determine which version you want to keep. Conflicting references appear in the Sync Conflicts group until they are resolved.
Benefits
Resolving sync conflicts helps you:
- Keep the correct version of each reference.
- Ensure EndNote desktop and EndNote Web/online contain matching reference data.
- Remove resolved references from the Sync Conflicts group.
Quick resolution
- In the Groups panel, Control-click Sync Conflicts and select Resolve Conflicts.
- Review the desktop and online versions of each reference.
- If needed, copy and paste information between the two versions before resolving the conflict.
- Select Keep Desktop Reference or Keep Online Reference.
- To resolve all conflicts using the same source, use the Keep All menu and select Keep All Desktop References or Keep All Online References.
You can also skip or cancel a conflict. Unresolved references remain in the Sync Conflicts group.
Important notes
- The conflict version you do not choose is permanently deleted.
- When you keep a version, EndNote updates the reference in both EndNote desktop and EndNote Web/online.
- If the connection to EndNote Web/online fails during resolution, the process stops and the dialog closes. Any data already sent is still processed.
- Changes to group names normally use the most recently changed name and do not create a conflict.
- Deleting a group takes priority over renaming it during sync.
- Moving the same reference to different groups in desktop and online can create a sync conflict.
