How to import PDFs into EndNote
Single PDF import
- Open EndNote and select your library.
- Go to File > Import > File...
- Click Choose, select the PDF.
- Important: Under Import Option, select PDF.
- Click Import — EndNote will create a reference automatically (if DOI is detected).
Batch PDF import (folder)
- Go to File > Import > Folder...
- Click Choose, select the folder containing multiple PDFs.
- Important: Under Import Option, select PDF.
- Click Import — EndNote processes all files, creating references where possible.
Afterwards, edit reference metadata
- Double-click the reference → go to the Edit tab.
- Verify Author, Title, Year, and other fields.
- Correct any missing or inaccurate data.
Attaching PDFs to existing references
- Select a reference in EndNote.
- Click +Attach file or go to References > File Attachments > Attach File.
- Select the PDF to link it.
