Please note, for the latest versions of NVivo users don´t need to activate via license key, but can use their myNVivo credentials. This is especially important, if you are using NVivo 15 and want to access the limited AI Assitant. End users at larger organizations, however, might receive a license key from their local admin to activate.

When trying to activate NVivo, you always need to make sure to use the correct installation file for the version you have a license for. Find more info here: Which NVivo Version do I have?

After you installed NVivo you are prompted to activate your license. If you are trying to activate NVivo using your myNVivo credentials, but receive the "No valid license" error, you likely have installed a different version of NVivo than you have a valid license for. You can find installation files for all versions of NVivo in the myLumivero portal: How do I download NVivo?

If you choose to activate via enterprise license key, but you might receive the following error message: "Invalid license key. The license key that was entered is not valid. Please check the key and try again"?

The error could be due to one of the below two reasons:

1. The key being entered is for a different version of NVivo
2. The license key has been entered incorrectly

Correct license key?

Please ensure you are entering the license key in the correct version of NVivo for Mac or Windows.

NVivo for Windows license keys start with NVP or NVT, NVivo for Mac licenses start with NMP or NMT.

Each version of NVivo requires a different license key. 
The license key’s first section describes which version the license key is designed for, like below

• If the license key has “15” in the first five characters, for example, NXX15-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX it can only activate NVivo Version 15
• If the license key has “14” in the first five characters, for example, NXX14-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX it can only activate NVivo 14

• the license key has “20” in the first five characters, for example, NXX20-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX it can only activate NVivo R1/2020

• If the license key has “12” in the first five characters, for example, NXX12-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX it can only activate NVivo 12

License key entered correctly?

Please copy and paste the license key to avoid any typing errors. 
Note! Pay careful attention to differentiate between:

• Number zero (Ø) and the alphabet O
• Number one (1) and the alphabet I
• Number two (2) and the alphabet Z
