Offline Activations Steps for Devices not on the Internet

NVivo licenses purchased prior to 22nd July 2025

If an online activation is not possible, you can generate an installation key and send your activation information (including the installation key) to Lumivero.

Lumivero will verify your information and send you an activation key that you can use to activate your license. 

To generate the installation key and send your activation request to Lumivero, follow the steps below.

 

NVivo 11 and up

  1. Display the Activation screen. If it is not already displayed, go to File > Help > Manage License > Activate License (or select Activate Now on the Activation Reminder).
  2. Click Activate via Email or Mail/Fax. If you are unable to select these options, please try to activate the license and wait for the error message to be displayed. Once the activation has failed, you should see the Email or Mail/Fax options.
  3. Enter your details. Those marked with an asterisk ( * ) are required - First Name, Last, Email and Country
  4. Click the Generate button to refresh the Installation Key.

If activating by Email, click the Send button. NVivo will generate an activation request email using your default mail client.

You can also take a screen shot of the completed Activate screen (Press Alt + Print Screen), save it and sent it to Lumivero Support.

Older versions of NVivo Windows

  1. File > Help > Activate License (or select Activate Now on the Activation Reminder).
  2. Steps 2-4 as listed above

NVivo for Mac

  1. In NVivo for Mac, display the License Activation screen. If it is not already displayed, choose NVivo > Licensing > Activate.
  2. On the Activate Via menu, choose Email or Mail/Fax from the list. If you are unable to select Email or Mail/Fax, try to activate the license and wait for the error message to be displayed. Once the activation has failed, you should see the Email or Mail/Fax options.
  3. Enter your details. Those marked with an asterisk ( * ) are required - First Name, Last, Email and Country
  4. Click the Generate button to create an Installation Key.

  5. If activating by Email, click the Send button. NVivo will generate an activation request email using your default mail client.

    You can also take a screen shot of the completed Activate screen (Press Alt + Print Screen), save it and sent it to Lumivero Support.

NVivo Server 11/Collaboration Server

  1. On the Activate License dialog box, click the Generate button to create an installation key. If you cannot see the Generate button, enter the required fields and then click Activate. The activation will fail and the Generate button should now be available.
  2. If the Generate button is not available, please try disabling the network connection on the server so that there's no internet access and then perform the activation again. You should then be able to generate the installation key and provide me the screen shot so that I can perform the activation for you.
  3. Save the information on this screen as an image file (for example, a .jpg or .png), and then provide it in your reply email
  4. After Lumivero has processed your information and sent you an activation key, you can enter the activation key and activate your license.

To enter the activation key sent to you by Lumivero:

  1. On the Licenses tab, for the license you want to activate, click Activate.
  2. In the Activate License dialog box, enter the required details (*) and then click Activate.
  3. When the activation fails because there is no Internet connection, additional fields are displayed and you can enter the activation key.
  4. Click Activate again to activate your license
