Summary:
Cite While You Write (CWYW) is EndNote’s Microsoft Word integration that lets you insert and format references directly from your EndNote library into your document while writing. It automatically generates and formats both in-text citations and bibliographies, keeping them in sync and instantly updating them if your citation style changes.
Think of CWYW as the bridge between your reference manager and your manuscript - no manual citation typing, no separate reference list building, and no reformatting headaches.
Why CWYW is Essential for Researchers
- Saves hours of manual formatting.
- Reduces citation errors and ensures metadata accuracy.
- Keeps citations and bibliography in sync without extra work.
- Seamlessly integrates citation management into your writing process.
What CWYW in EndNote does

3. Live formatting
- Change citation styles (APA, Chicago, Vancouver, etc.) mid-document, and EndNote updates everything instantly.
4. Word integration
- Appears as an EndNote tab or toolbar in Microsoft Word after installation.
