Question
How do I cite QSR software in my work?
Answer
If You're Using The Latest Version of NVivo
To cite QSR software products within a body of text, it is customary to mention the software used. The type of program is optional. For example:
Example 1: Fred Smith uses NVivo (released in March 2020).
Example 2: John Citizen used NVivo (released in March 2020).
A Citation may be written in the same way as a reference to a book publisher (note, there is no need to repeat material contained within the body text). A common referencing convention is the American Psychological Association (APA), which is used widely and uses the following style for references:
Last name, F. M. or Name of Group. (Year). Title of software (Version No.). Publisher. URL
To reference NVivo, it would be:
QSR International Pty Ltd. (2020) NVivo (released in March 2020), https://www.qsrinternational.com/nvivo-qualitative-data-analysis-software/home
If You're Using An Older Version of NVivo
To cite QSR software products within a body of text, it is customary to mention the software name and the software version. The type of program is optional. For example:
Example 1: Fred Smith uses NVivo 12 Pro.
Example 2: John Citizen used NVivo 11 Plus.
A Citation may be written in the same way as a reference to a book publisher (note, there is no need to repeat material contained within the body text). For example:
QSR International Pty Ltd. (2018) NVivo (Version 12), https://www.qsrinternational.com/nvivo-qualitative-data-analysis-software/home
Note, use the same format for NVivo 11, released 2015; NVivo 10, released in 2014; NVivo 9, released in 2010; and NVivo 8, released in 2008.
