I have an NVB file, how do I open it in NVivo?
How do I recover a NVivo Windows Project?
Answer
The latest version of NVivo was released in March 2020, it supersedes NVivo 12. The below information applies to new NVivo - Windows, NVivo 12 Windows and NVivo 11 Windows. Note, the below information is not applicable to NVivo Mac.
If you are using NVivo – Windows, NVivo 12 Windows or NVivo 11 Windows and have access to a project recovery file (nvb file), you may be able to recover the data in that file. The project recovery file may not necessarily contain the most recent work, depending on when it was last saved.
Please refer to the relevant help topics depending on your version of NVivo for Windows:

Recovery instructions
- Please use the link below to download a corrupt dummy project corresponding to the version of NVivo Windows you are using. Download and save this file to your computer.
- Open NVivo, click on ‘Open Other Project’, then Browse and select the dummy file saved in the previous step
- You will be presented with an option to recover from a project recovery file. Select your .nvb file from the list to recover the project. If your project does not appear in the list, you can try searching your computer for any .nvb files, these are project recovery files. The project should open automatically once recovery is complete.
